Dr. Idris Abd Ghani was formerly a Professor of Entomology at the School of Environmental Science and Natural Resources, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). He joined UKM in 1995 as a Lecturer of Entomology.
He obtained his BSc. degrees at the Universiti Putra Malaysia (B.Agric.Sc. 1980, and served as crop protection officer at the Department of Agriculture Malaysia till 1989 and later pursued his postgraduate studies at Michigan State University (MSU), USA. He received his MSc degree in Entomology in 1991 and PhD in 1995 specializing in Integrated Pest Management. He received excellent awards for his MSc and PhD degree from the Entomology Department of MSU and MSU itself, respectively. He received an USAID scholarship for his MSc degree.
Dr. Idris also received two international research grants (TORAY and TWAS) for young (< 40 age) researcher. During his tenure with UKM, he was awarded twice for highest achiever (academic excellent performance) of academic staffs.
